Panorama Framing’s Newsletter: March 7, 2013 (Grand Opening & more!)

07 March

You asked, and I said we’d keep you informed about the where, when and how of Panorama’s new Oakland storefront… so here I am. 🙂

Panorama Framing’s quiet Valentine’s Day opening was great fun, and it’s been exciting to meet all the folks — local and otherwise — who are interested, excited like me, and even have some framing to be done. 🙂

Storefront buildout: The workshop is almost complete; Local artisan/woodworker Daryl Rush and crew have made a cabinet, window platform, and some rocking worktables (4’x8′ each!) which will keep me going for the foreseeable future. An interior fixture wall and sundries nearly complete the space — while Kevin Berne‘s fine art & fun photography is filling in the walls for Panorama’s first gallery show! (More about Kevin’s photography & an official show opener to come…)

Grand Opening: So… I’m looking at a Grand Opening Calendar (the one that’s handed out to all of us new business owners), and I’m thinking that a late-afternoon-to-early-evening shindig would be best had on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17th. That’s 3/17/13, otherwise known as St. Paddy’s, and it would be great to see you and your friends (please pass this invite on!) at Panorama; I can offer you a Guinness and a smile. 🙂 Other than Guinness & smiles, who knows? There could be some swag to be had. RSVP is not necessary, though it is appreciated if you think you can make it on over.

Exciting!

Design Counter: Daryl Rush is also working on a design counter for Panorama’s main gallery area. This will be where customers and I lay out artwork & objects to be framed, and stir up a design storm of mats, fillets, frames and ideas. It will happily replace the card tables in use now. The design counter will be a finely finished solid piece of pine, 16′ long by 4′ deep by about 6-8″ thick, and clocking in at 1200 pounds. Nice! I expect this to be installed before St. Pat’s.

There’s lots more to tell, but I’ll try to write up a blog post or two & get them up at Panorama’s Web site, so just one final note:

Letterpress Printers’ Nights: If you’ve been in the shop or peeked through the windows, you know Panorama has a love for things letterpress and print art oriented. Oakland & area has a thriving community of printers, and I’d like to open up the shop for an occasional “printers’ night”. This would be less of a workshop and more of a social event; with folks networking and sharing new & cool projects, tips and ideas, open to the printer/artist and appreciative folks alike. If you’re interested in staying in the loop about the Printer’s Night, just give me a shout via email or phone. Cool!
